My name is Octavio Trillos, a writer and film producer currently based in Montreal, Canada. I am also a lawyer, and I practiced Corporate and Criminal Law for half a decade before I studied Film, specializing in screenwriting.
Why did I switch from Law to Film? I get asked that question a lot, and the answer requires me to speak from the heart. I went to law school because I wanted to bring justice to people who needed it. I wanted to add value to their lives and create a positive impact in my society. However, the judicial system I was practicing in did not allow me to apply what I had learned in all my five years in law school. Instead, I found myself working in a corrupted environment that cared little about people—which is why I moved to Canada and started my film career. Through writing, I found a way to add value to people's lives, but this time in a more powerful, global way: movies and novels. I've been able to apply all the skills I learned as a lawyer and as a screenwriter to the stories I write, making them compelling, raw, human and universal.
